It’s a brilliant addition to the curriculum, the pupils will love it, and it will tie in with so much you already do!
Definitely do it!
It is a brilliant scheme and the children really enjoy their Latin lessons.
It helps with grammar knowledge and with reading (for example prefixes, suffixes and word roots, and the culture lessons support and enhance our history curriculum.
Go for it! It adds a great deal of depth to pupil understanding in English, history and provides a solid foundation for learning MFL in secondary schools. A number of my ex-pupils moved into top set when learning Spanish in Y7 as a result of understanding masculine and feminine nouns, changing verb endings, sentence structure and translating language by linking it to Latin roots where similar.
I wished that we had switched to Latin as our language years ago. I would make it compulsory in primary schools if I could! The children love it, the teachers love it and the benefits to other curriculum subjects are massive.
The school’s curriculum is broad and ambitious. Leaders have thought carefully about what they teach to the pupils and why. For example, pupils learn Latin to support them with their understanding of root words, grammar and language development.
Do it! It’s been the best thing for my career to change to Classics – I’m not even sure I’d still be in teaching if not for that.
It’s a fantastic way to get to grips with grammar and root words. Children understand the root meanings of words and can connect similar words.
Do it! It’s delightful to see such engagement from students.
Great – go for it. Much easier than we thought it was going to be. Both staff and children are really enjoying it.
I would say do it! I have had a great time and enjoyed the resources!
Do not hesitate a second. Kids love it!

Many – children enjoy both the language and culture lessons
Children enjoy learning about the myths and gods in each unit and using key words from the Latin lessons to help tell the stories.
Children particularly enjoyed creating their own Latin comic books
Having discussions around the topics and getting the students to debate amongst each other.

(The Rawlett School)
Salve. I like Classical Study because it is a language that isn’t spoken as much as languages like English and french. We also learn the meanings of Latin words and ancient mythology like the myth of Achilles.
