Pupils at Key Stage 2 must study a foreign language, but this can now be Latin or ancient Greek.  

Why Study Latin? 

• It is the root of the Romance languages and provides a foundation for the later study of modern languages such as Spanish or French.
• It supports English literacy by improving grammatical understanding, and providing insight into the origin of our language 
• It connects with other areas of the curriculum, e.g. KS2 History and the study of Roman Britain.  
• It is fun and accessible to all.  

We offer FREE training for primary teachers/assistants to learn to teach either the Minimus course or Maximum Classics - no previous Latin knowledge is required.

 Classics has something for everyone and for all abilities at secondary.

Latin and Greek can be taught in all key stages and exams are available at GCSE and A Level, as well as an entry level Latin qualification. Both Latin and Greek meet the language requirement for the EBacc.

Both Classics and Ancient History stimulate interests in many areas including history and literature. Both can be taken up at any level.  

We can provide advise and resources for introducing Classics clubs, modules of myth or epic, Greek drama & theatre, Language clubs or ancient history topics.

We offer FREE training for teachers/assistants to learn to teach Latin, Ancient Greek, Classical Civilisation or Ancient History - no previous classical knowledge is required. However, some is helpful if you are interested in teaching the A Level.
