Minimus is a story-based Latin course for primary pupils, set in Roman Britain at the fort of Vindolanda near Hadrian's Wall. The course follows a real family - Flavius, the fort commander in 100 CE, his wife Lepidina, their children, and even their cat and mouse - whose lives are documented in the famous Vindolanda tablets. By weaving real archaeological objects and historical evidence into fictional storylines, Minimus makes Latin accessible, engaging, and firmly rooted in the world of Roman Britain.
The course is an excellent way to connect Latin language learning with KS2 history topics on Roman Britain, and requires no prior Latin knowledge to teach.
A wide range of resources is available on the Minimus website, and supplementary materials including schemes of work, PowerPoints, and audio files can be found on the Classics for All Resources Hub. We also offer free training to help give teachers the confidence to introduce Latin into the classroom - no specialist knowledge required. Get in touch to find out more.
