Whether you're a primary teacher curious about Latin, a secondary school looking to introduce Ancient History, or an English teacher wanting to bring mythology into your lessons, we can help. We offer free training, CPD, and ongoing support for both curriculum and extra-curricular provision across Birmingham and the West Midlands — and no specialist knowledge is required to get started.

Bring Classics to Your School

Primary Schools

Secondary Schools

Classics is more accessible than you might think at primary level. The KS2 curriculum already includes significant ancient world content — ancient Greece and Rome feature in History, and mythology weaves naturally into English through storytelling, creative writing, and reading comprehension. We can help you bring that content to life and deepen it further.

Latin is also an increasingly popular modern foreign language option at KS2, and is an excellent choice for a number of reasons:

  • It builds English vocabulary and spelling, since over 60% of English words have Latin roots
  • It strengthens grammatical understanding in a way that transfers to all language learning
  • It connects directly to KS2 History topics on Roman Britain
  • It is accessible to all abilities and requires no prior language experience

We offer free training and ongoing support for teachers and teaching assistants across all primary classics provision — no previous knowledge required.

Secondary Schools

Classics has something to offer every secondary school, whatever your current provision. Many schools begin with a lunchtime club, a mythology enrichment session, or a taster day, and build from there. We also offer various competitions and challenges — including the Ovid Mythology Competition, the Reading Challenge, and the Olympus Challenge — which provide a structured and engaging way to introduce students to the classical world.

Latin, Ancient Greek, Classical Civilisation, and Ancient History can all be taught at secondary level, with GCSE and A Level qualifications available across these subjects, Whether you're introducing a language or a humanities-based classical subject, we provide tailored training and resources to get you started.

We offer free training and ongoing support for teachers and teaching assistants across all secondary classics provision — no previous knowledge required.

Resources Hub

Classics for All's new Resources Hub is intended to be a reliable source for high-quality, curated resources that support the teaching of classical subjects across all key stages.

Access to the Resources Hub is free for all teachers but you will be required to create an account when you first sign up. You will then be issued with a username and password to log into the site.

The resources on the platform are recommended by Classics for All. Many have been directly commissioned by the charity or produced by teachers or academic staff in our partner schools or universities. For each Key Stage, you will also find a list of recommended external resources and websites.

The Resources Hub is currently populated with material for Key Stages 2 and 3. Content for Key Stages 4 and 5 will be coming soon but, in the meantime, you may wish to visit the Warwick Classics Network website for more resources specific to Classics at KS4-5.

We can provide free training for all the courses and resources listed on the Resources Hub. For further information about this free training or for advice about resources, please email  cfaschoolsupport@classicsforall.org.uk or westmidlands@classicsforall.org.uk

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely nothing! There is no cost to a UK state school for the training we deliver – the trainer is paid directly by Classics for All on submission of invoices.

The cost of each course varies depending on factors such as duration and complexity. Please visit the individual course pages to see the pricing information.

All our Classics for All trainers are, or have been, subject specialist teachers in UK schools and will have taught the subject they are training you in. They have a wealth of subject knowledge, teaching experience, and can offer advice in all aspects of teaching the subject.

Training is arranged by schools in conversation with their trainers, so can take place at anytime that is suited to both the trainer delivering the session and the teacher(s) being trained. But all training must be completed with 12 months of accepting your support offer. We typically offer 6 hours of training for primary school, Key Stage 3 teachers, and training for extra-curricular clubs, and 6–12 hours training for GCSE and A-Level teachers. These hours can be spread throughout the year in shorter sessions of one to two hours (especially if done online) or in sessions lasting the whole day (especially if done in person) and can be arranged during the school day or completed as twilight sessions.

Training can take place either online or in-person, depending on your preference and the availability of your trainer. Whilst we will always try to honour a school’s training preferences, sometimes the best trainer for your school may be based at the other end of the country and training will need to take place online.

We can train teachers in subject knowledge and/or pedagogy, and regularly train teachers who have never taught or studied classics before.

We offer training for both curricular and extra-curricular clubs and our trainers can provide advice on planning, delivery, extra reading, exam assessments and more. Trainers will also share all relevant resources with teachers for each course and recommended resources can also be found on our Resources Hub. It is helpful to be as specific as possible about your training needs in your application so we can arrange the most suitable trainer and they can tailor their training to you.

Whilst all our training, advice and support is free, we do ask schools to confirm the date scheduled for their first training session within one month of accepting your support offer, that all training sessions be completed within 12 months of accepting your support offer and that you respond to our annual monitoring request emails from your regional network coordinator.

Yes! There is no limit on the number of time you may apply for support with Classics for All. Schools may have additional training for teachers needing to progress further with the course, for new staff joining you, or for an additional course or new classical subject you may be interested in introducing. The application system is the same, just complete step 3 once again by completing the initial enquiry form.

If you have exceeded 12 months since you accepted your support offer and still haven’t used up all your training, please let your local network coordinator know and let us know at  cfaschoolsupport@classicsforall.org.uk – it is absolutely fine if this is the case. We understand that sometimes you will take less time than the training hours you have been allocated - in which case we will fall in the remaining funds, and it will be allocated to another school in the future. Equally, if you haven’t used up all the training by the end of year, but would like more training the following year, or further down the line, you are welcome to apply again in the same way as mentioned above. Just get in touch to let us know the situation, and then complete the initial enquiry form.

Please get in touch at cfaschoolsupport@classicsforall.org.uk and we can include it in your current support offer or help you apply for further support depending on what is more appropriate.
